Or fly to the roof and rope yourself down. But a broom of flying is in motion Maybe it works like a bicycle, and is difficult to balance on while stationary but becomes easier once you start moving. Simple answer is to stand on the window ledge grab the flying thing and then misty step through the window. Your DM might argue that flying a broom is strenuous, because there's high wind blowing on you constantly and you have to make sure the broom stays at the right altitude. Sound like someone is using the broom or carpet to fly up to a window then misty stepping through the window. Neither list mentions "flying a broom", so your DM will have to make a ruling about which category this is similar to. If the rest is interrupted by a period of strenuous activity-at least 1 hour of walking, fighting, casting spells, or similar adventuring activity-the characters must begin the rest again to gain any benefit from it.
